Powered by allround brilliance of Donovan Ferreira, Joburg Super Kings defeated Durban Super Giants in a Super Over thriller. They survived a spirited fightback by DSG in the second innings to take the game into the Super Over. Richard Gleeson then bowled a fantastic over to restrict DSG for just 5 runs, which was then chased by Joburg Super Kings easily.

Despite losing the match, Durban Super Giants can be proud of their effort. They staged a brilliant fightback in the second innings while chasing a big target of 206 runs. Their batters played confidently, displaying high quality hitting under pressure. Unfortunately, they couldn’t win the match, as a tight over by Wiaan Mulder pushed the game into a Super Over.

Batting first, Joburg Super Kings had a great start, as their openers took down the Super Kings bowlers aggressively in the Powerplay. Both Faf du Plessis and Matthew De Villiers looked in good touch, as they kept hitting boundaries at a rapid pace. Faf du Plessis was especially impressive because he took the pressure off the youngster by leading the attack.

The duo built a strong batting foundation at the start, but a fine delivery by Noor Ahmad dismissed  Matthew De Villiers in the 9th over. He got out after scoring 38 runs at a brilliant strike rate of 146.

Soon after his dismissal, Rilee Rossouw also lost his wicket without scoring any runs. This was a big jolt for Super Kings, as Faf du Plessis was looking to build a big partnership with Rilee Rossouw. The captain then tried to put pressure back on the bowlers by hitting boundaries, but he too was dismissed in the 11th over. Nevertheless, his knock of 47 runs was still impressive, as it gave Joburg Super Kings a platform to launch big towards the end.

The dismissal of Faf du Plessis brought Shubham Ranjane to the crease, who took the responsibility to take the innings deep. He played sensibly in the middle overs, so that Super Kings did not lose more wickets. He scored an unbeaten 50 runs off just 31 balls, hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes.

The player who gave the major impetus to the Joburg Super Kings innings was Donovan Ferreira. He scored at a blistering strike rate of 330, leaving the DSG bowlers stunned. With a brute batting display, he scored 33 off just 10 balls, helping Joburg Super Kings to score 205 at the end of the first innings.

Rocky Start in Pursuit of 206 Runs

When Durban Super Giants came out to bat, they didn’t have a great start. Their top order failed badly while trying to play big shots. The captain Aiden Markram then played a calm innings to steady things, however, he also got out after scoring 37 runs.

The dismissal of Aiden Markram then brought Evan Jones to the crease, who gave Super Giants the much-needed impetus. By striking at 252, he scored 43 off just 17 balls to give DSG a glimmer of hope while chasing the target.

The match then came down to the final over, with DSG needing 15 runs to win. They once again showed great fight to inch closer to the target, but couldn’t finish the chase. They tied the score on the last ball of the innings, which eventually took the game into a Super Over.

Keeping the nerves in check, Joburg Super Kings nailed the Super Over contest in a dominating fashion. They first restricted the DSG team to just 5 runs, courtesy of some superb bowling by Richard Gleeson. This low target was then chased quickly by the home side, as Rilee Rossouw hit two quick boundaries to finally seal the victory. By winning this thrilling contest, Joburg Super Kings have now secured the top position on the points table with three wins in three matches.
