New Zealand’s all-rounder Jimmy Neesham has landed alongside cricket’s biggest names, Virat Kohli and Babar Azam, in an undesirable T20I record: seven ducks. The 34-year-old was out for a second-ball duck during the tri-nation match against South Africa in Harare, marking his seventh career duck in T20 Internationals.
With that, Neesham surpasses former teammate Colin de Grandhomme, who held New Zealand’s previous record with six ducks. He now leads his country in this dubious stat.
Neesham isn’t alone in his struggle. He joins an exclusive group, including Virat Kohli, Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez, Quinton de Kock, and Jason Roy, who’ve also been dismissed for ducks at least seven times in T20Is.
The worldwide record for the most T20I ducks is held by Zappy Bimenyimana, Kevin Irakoze, Soumya Sarkar, Dasun Shanaka, and Paul Stirling, each with 13.
Despite Neesham’s misfortune with the bat, New Zealand enjoyed a comfortable 21-run win over South Africa in the same match. Tim Robinson stayed firm and scored a measured 75* and was assisted by Bevon Jacobs with 44* as NZ posted 173. Bowlers then restricted South Africa to 152.
