The Hyderabad franchise for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 11 has officially confirmed Jason Gillespie as its head coach, with the tournament set to begin on March 26. Set to be first-time participants in the tournament, the appointment signals Hyderabad’s intent to establish a competitive structure from the outset.
Hyderabad is one of two newly introduced teams ahead of PSL season 11, with Sialkot Stallionz joining the league as the second expansion franchise.
The Hyderabad franchise is owned by Fawad Sarwar’s Kingsmen group, which secured the team during the PSL auction with a successful bid of Rs 1.75 billion, approximately $6.25 million.
The announcement featured a graphic of the former Australian pacer alongside a clear statement outlining the franchise’s ambitions.
“Vision clear. Direction locked. Entering a New Era. Jason Gillespie takes charge as Head Coach of Hyderabad,” the post read.
Gillespie brings prior experience within the Pakistan cricket setup. In April 2024, he was hired as the head coach of Pakistan’s national Test team. However, his tenure was cut short when he resigned ahead of Pakistan’s two-match Test series against South Africa in December 2024.
His resignation followed reports of disagreements with the Pakistan Cricket Board and challenges in aligning with the team’s management structure.
While the coaching staff has now been confirmed, the Hyderabad franchise is yet to officially reveal its team name and logo for the tournament. With Gillespie at the helm, Hyderabad enters the league with experienced leadership as the countdown to PSL Season 11 continues.
