Jaker Ali, Bangladesh T20I captain, took the lead as skipper when Litton Das was hospitalised with a side strain. Jaker has limited captaincy experience, having led Bangladesh in just two Asia Cup matches.
This T20I series with Afghanistan is a great opportunity for Jaker to prove himself as a leader. Going as a captain, wicketkeeper, and batter will challenge his strategic skills. Bangladesh will also need to sharpen its batting strategy, which would be a combination of six-hitting and rotation of strike to put competitive totals on the board.
Asia Cup has been a failure for Afghanistan; they have made changes to their selection. The Afghanistan T20I squad for this series will consist of several new players, indicating a shift in orientation towards identifying new talent.
Afghanistan has omitted the senior players such as Gulbadin Naib, Karim Janat, and Fazalhaq Farooqi, and included uncapped players such as Wafiullah Tarakhil and Bashir Ahmad.
The talent of new players in the T20I series in Afghanistan, especially Tarakhil and Bashir, has overwhelming potential.
Tarakhil was doing well in the 2025 Shpageeza Cricket League, scoring 298 runs in nine innings with a strike rate of 155.20, and Bashir Ahmad has left-arm pace that can similarly replace Farooqi. They will play their best in Afghanistan’s challenge against Bangladesh.
Spin bowling is probably the key element of this series. Rashid Khan led Afghanistan with tremendous depth in spin bowling. Legspinner Rishad Hossain has brought strength to the spin department of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s spinners will be tested as they try to counter Afghanistan’s dominant spin attack. The battle between the two spin attacks may determine the result of every match. The fans can expect key matchups, smart variations, and a display of world-class spin bowling.
The series will be in Sharjah, but the conditions will challenge both teams. Afghanistan has won 20 of their 30 T20Is in Sharjah, and 14 of 18 when batting first, indicating that they are comfortable in hot and challenging conditions. Bangladesh, in their turn, have won only one out of six T20s under the Sharjah-like conditions.
The high temperatures and humidity will make it difficult for players to stay fit, concentrated, and perform well. Both teams will need to rest players and adjust quickly to keep playing at their best
Jaker Ali, Bangladesh T20I captain, carries the responsibility of guiding his team, while the Afghanistan T20I squad will also ensure exciting matches.
