India defeated West Indies by an innings and 140 runs in Ahmedabad. The hosts made 448 for 5, with Jurel scoring 125 and Jadeja unbeaten on 104. Siraj took 7 wickets in the match, while Bumrah added 6. Athanaze’s 38 was the only fight for the West Indies. Jadeja’s 4 for 54 in the 2nd innings sealed the win in 3 days.

Ravindra Jadeja reminded everyone why he belongs among the game’s top all-rounders. His unbeaten 104 in the first innings set the tone, and his 4 for 54 wrapped up West Indies on the third day in Ahmedabad. India sealed a huge innings-and-140-run victory with two-and-a-half days to spare.

This win carried extra weight. Last year, India’s proud streak at home was snapped with its first series loss in nearly 12 years. Many of the old players are gone now, such as Kohli, Ashwin, and Pujara. But Jadeja is still here. At 36, he proved once again he can swing a match with bat and ball.

He was there when the streak began in 2013. He was there when it ended against New Zealand last year in Pune. And he was there again now, lifting India to a dominant win over West Indies in the first match of the new season. In India’s first home Test without Ashwin, Jadeja stepped up with a century and four wickets.

For West Indies, Alick Athanaze was the lone bright spot. His 38 in the second innings showed why he’s rated as a good player of spin. He picked length quickly, went forward or back with purpose, and even reverse-swept Jadeja twice. But India kept coming at him. Bumrah banged one into his helmet, Washington Sundar spun one past his bat, and eventually, Athanaze misread Jadeja and chipped a catch after 73 balls of resistance.

The rest of West Indies’ batting was fragile. John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul managed just 30 runs between them across two innings. Brandon King tried to counterattack Jadeja but was undone by smart flight and turn, edging to slip after earlier driving him through cover.

There were comic moments, too. Jomel Warrican swung so hard at Siraj that his bat flew out of his hands, while the ball landed safely in mid-off’s palms. That summed up the visitors’ struggles.

Siraj had a big match as well. He picked up 4 for 40 in the first innings and 3 for 31 in the second, his first five-wicket haul across a home Test. Bumrah chipped in with 3 for 42 on day one, striking twice in the Powerplay. Together with Jadeja, they ran through the West Indies twice in three days.

In the end, the numbers told the story. The visitors lost 10 wickets in two sessions on day one and again on day three. Only two batters crossed 30 in either inning. Only two faced more than 50 balls. Their wait to beat India in India, which has stretched into its 31st year, goes on.

The second Test now shifts to Delhi, where West Indies will need more than just flashes of resistance if they want to stay alive in the series.
