Scamacca And Esposito Fire Italy To 3-1 Win Over Turkiye in Nations League Encounter
Italy picked up an important 3-1 win over Turkiye at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara to strengthen their position in the Nations League. Gianluca Scamacca, Riccardo Calafiori and Francesco Pio Esposito all found the net as Roberto Mancini’s side moved up to second place in Group A.
Mancini made nine changes to Italy’s starting lineup in Bologna after their draw with France. The changes took some time to settle, and Turkiye looked more threatening during the early stages of the match.
However, Italy eventually found a way through in the 26th minute. Vergara and Giovanni Di Lorenzo combined well on the right before the Napoli captain sent a dangerous ball into the box. Scamacca had already had a goal ruled out for offside, but he made no mistake this time to give Italy an early lead.
Italy then tried to take control of the midfield for the rest of the first half, but Turkiye continued to cause problems when they attacked on the break. Their movement without the ball kept the Italian defence busy, with Aral Simsir standing out for the visitors.
Turkiye came out for the second half with more energy and almost scored when Simsir took advantage of a mix-up between Donnarumma and Di Lorenzo. He went around the goalkeeper but was pushed towards the side, giving Bastoni enough time to get back and block his shot.
Despite tough resistance, Turkiye continued to push and eventually got their reward in the 61st minute. Aral Simsir gave the visitors a much-needed respite, as his timely strike allowed Turkiye to come back into the contest.
Interestingly, Italy did not take long to respond, as they moved back in front through Calafiori just four minutes after conceding the first goal.
Turkiye still kept looking for a way back into the game as the final minutes approached, however, Italy remained firm on the back.
The home side then wrapped up the win in the 87th minute after a quick counter-attack. A combined effort from Alessandro Romano and Francesco Pio Esposito did the job for them, as Turkish defence once again went loose in the closing minutes.
This last strike brought loud celebrations from the home supporters and sealed another win for Italy in the Nations League. It also helped them finish second in the group, with France leading the standings with 10 points.
