Italy Bounce Back To Defeat Turkiye in Nations League Clash

Italy secured their first win under Roberto Mancini since his return as head coach after beating Turkiye 4-1 in their Nations League match in Bursa.

Mancini’s second stint with Italy started with a 2-0 loss to Belgium on Friday, but the team produced a much better performance against Turkiye. Italy took control in the first half, with Alessandro Bastoni, Davide Frattesi and Michael Kayode all finding the net.

Turkiye managed to get one back shortly after the break through Baris Alper Yilmaz. However, Pio Esposito restored Italy’s three-goal lead soon after and helped his side claim their first Group A1 victory, which moved them up to third place.

Mancini made several changes to his lineup for the game, bringing in eight new starters after the defeat against Belgium. Only Donnarumma, Tonali and Pio Esposito retained their places from the previous match.

The visitors looked dangerous from the opening minutes. Raspadori came close to opening the scoring but sent his shot wide, before Bayindir had to stretch to keep out an effort from Esposito.

Turkiye eventually gave way in the ninth minute, as Bastoni made the most of a corner and smashed the ball into the top of the net to put the visitors ahead.

Italy kept control of the game and added another goal in the 22nd minute. Bayindir stopped Kayode’s initial effort, but Frattesi was quick to react and sent the rebound into the net.

Turkiye were in more trouble five minutes later when Kayode scored on his Italy debut. He finished a good team move with a low shot that went past Bayindir to make it 3-0.

Turkiye tried to respond through Arda Guler, but Donnarumma was there to deny him. Italy then came close to adding another goal, with Sebastiano Esposito seeing his shot blocked before Raspadori sent his attempt wide.

Turkiye reduced the deficit shortly after the second half began. Aydin played the ball across the area, and Yilmaz took advantage of the open goal to make it 3-1.

Italy did not allow the hosts to build any momentum, though. Tonali struck the post five minutes into the half, and Esposito reacted quickly to the rebound, heading the ball past Bayindir for Italy’s fourth goal.

Turkiye continued to search for another breakthrough, but their attacks were repeatedly stopped. Guler and Yilmaz both had efforts blocked, while Bayindir also kept out Cambiaghi’s shot at the other end.

Due to their strong defending, Italy eventually won the match by a convincing scoreline of 4-1, as Turkiye remained lacklustre and without any clear plan in the closing stages of the contest.
