KARACHI: Chasing a target of 193 at the National Stadium, Islamabad United’s innings took a significant hit during the initial phase of the second innings. After a brisk but expensive start, the United side found themselves at 55 for the loss of two wickets after powerplay, with the Multan Sultans' bowlers effectively utilizing the new ball to disrupt the chase.
The innings began with visible intent from Devon Conway as he looked to capitalize on the early field restrictions. However, the Sultans' discipline quickly paid dividends. The first major blow came in the third over when Sameer Minhas (1) was dismissed, failing to get under a delivery that hurried him into a mistimed shot. The situation worsened shortly after when Devon Conway (18), who had looked dangerous with four boundaries in his brief seven-ball cameo, was also sent back to the dugout.
Despite the early setbacks, Mohsin Riaz (24*) remains the anchor for Islamabad. He is joined by captain Shadab Khan, as the pair attempts to stabilize the innings while keeping the required run rate, currently hovering near 10 runs per over, within reachable limits.
The Sultans’ opening pair of Mohammad Imran and Muhammad Ismail have managed to keep the pressure high, successfully navigating United's aggressive batting style by varying their lengths.
With the powerplay winding down and the target still 138 runs away, the responsibility now falls heavily on Shadab and Mohsin Riaz to build a substantial partnership to keep Islamabad United’s playoff qualification hopes alive.
