Islamabad United revealed the retention prices of their three protected players on Wednesday. They made their intentions clear ahead of the PSL 11 players’ auction on February 11.
Shadab Khan remains the cornerstone of the side. Islamabad retained the all-rounder in the Platinum category for PKR 70 million. He remains the star face of the franchise. The decision was expected, yet the figure underlines how strongly the management continues to back his leadership and balance.
Fast bowler Salman Irshad falls in the Gold category at PKR 12 million. His pace and control in high-pressure overs raised his value over the past season. Islamabad no longer views him as just depth. He’s now central to their playing XI.
Andries Gous completes the trio. The USA wicketkeeper-batter has been locked into the Silver category for PKR 14 million, a tidy investment for a player who adds flexibility at the top and behind the stumps. It is a calculated move rather than a flashy one.
With these decisions, Islamabad United retention prices now account for PKR 96 million from the overall franchise purse. Each team has a total budget of PKR 450 million, plus an additional PKR 55 million reserved for direct signings under the new PSL 11 auction model. Islamabad has not rushed. They have picked their core and left breathing space.
This season marks a turning point for the Pakistan Super League. For the first time, the familiar draft has been replaced by an auction system. That shift changes everything. Strategy matters more. Timing matters more, and so does the cash flow.
Five franchises have already announced their retentions, while Multan Sultans chose a clean slate, entering the auction with maximum funds. Against that backdrop, Islamabad’s early clarity stands out. They know who they want to build around.
