Ireland vs Afghanistan 2nd ODI Powerplay Live: AFG Reaches 65/1

BREADY: Afghanistan standardizes its rhythm early despite a damp, challenging outfield, finishing their first 10 overs at 65 for the loss of 1 wicket in the rain-truncated second One-Day International against Ireland at the Bready Cricket Club. 

After persistent wet weather forced a 90-minute delay and reduced the fixture to a 47-overs-a-side contest, Irish captain Paul Stirling called correctly at the toss and promptly chose to field first, hoping his seamers could exploit the early moisture.

Ireland’s strategic gambit injected fresh blood into their pace attack, handing marquee ODI debuts to left-arm speedster Jai Moondra and right-arm quick Byron McDonough. However, Afghanistan's opening pair of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran navigated the initial threat with aggressive composure. Gurbaz immediately put pressure back onto the hosts, unleashing a flurry of boundary strokes that punished anything fractionally short or wide.

The explosive wicketkeeper-batsman raced to a brisk 32 off 30 deliveries, injecting early momentum into the visitor's innings and threatening to completely hijack the mandatory powerplay. The Irish breakthrough finally materialized through the debutant Moondra. Deploying the sharp, back-of-a-length delivery that made him a breakout star in the T20I circuit, Moondra induced a mistimed shot from Gurbaz, who mistimed a pull straight into the hands of the waiting fielder.

The dismissal provided Ireland a massive sigh of relief but failed to completely halt Afghanistan's scoring velocity. Incoming batsman Sediqullah Atal quickly found his footing alongside a characteristically patient Ibrahim Zadran. 

At the conclusion of the powerplay, Afghanistan stood comfortably placed at 65/1, with Zadran unbeaten on 9 and Atal aggressively supporting on 18 not out.
