Tucker, Hollard Help Ireland Script First T20I Win Over India

Ireland thumped India in the first match of the T20I series by 34 runs. Skipper Lorcan Tucker led the way with a brilliant half-century before Matt Hollard wrapped up the victory with a three-wicket haul.

The win was Ireland's first-ever T20I victory over the three-time champions after losing their previous eight meetings in the format.

India's new captain, Shreyas Iyer, chose to bowl first, but the decision did not work out as Ireland posted a strong total of 182/9 in 20 overs. Captain Tucker and Gareth Delany played a key role with a fighting 64-run stand for the fifth wicket.

The pair batted with patience against India's aggressive bowling attack and helped Ireland recover after an early setback.

Harshit Rana finally ended the important partnership in the 15th over by dismissing Tucker. The Ireland captain was the top scorer with 50 runs from 36 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes.

Delany also played a key innings, scoring a quick 49 off 32 balls with the help of three fours and three sixes. Due to his late striking, Ireland managed to post 182 on the board at the end of the first innings.

Chasing a tough target of 183, India were bowled out for 148 in 18.5 overs. Abhishek Sharma gave India a fast start despite wickets falling at the other end. He scored a quick 49 from just 20 balls, hitting seven fours and two sixes.

However, after his dismissal, India lost two more wickets in quick succession and slipped to 100/6 after 12 overs.

All-rounders Shivam Dube and Axar Patel tried to keep India in the game with a 35-run partnership, but both were dismissed one after the other. Their wickets left India needing 46 runs from 19 balls with only two wickets remaining.

Matthew Humphreys then ended India's hopes by dismissing Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh in the second-last over, helping Ireland seal a famous win.

Both teams will now meet again in the second T20I at the same venue, with India trying to get a victory to square the series.
