Ireland Beat Bangladesh by 39 Runs in the 1st T20I at Chattogram

Chattagram, November 27, 2025 Ireland defeated the first of a series of T20s between Ireland and Bangladesh by 39 runs at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium. Ireland had a target of 182 runs, but Bangladesh failed to achieve it, even though their hopes were kept alive by the heroic performance of Towhid Hridoy, 83 runs off 50 balls.

Ireland Innings: 181/4 (20 overs)

Ireland batted first and made a competitive 181/4. Harry Tector was the main pillar of the innings; he remained unbeaten on 69 from 45 balls with a single four and five sixes, which kept the scoreboard running late in the innings.

Key Performances:

  • Paul Stirling (c): 21 runs from 18 balls
  • Tim Tector: 32 runs from 19 balls
  • Harry Tector (not out): 69 runs from 45 balls
  • Lorcan Tucker: 18 runs from 14 balls
  • Curtis Campher: 24 runs from 17 balls
  • George Dockrell (not out): 12 runs from 7 balls

Ireland's total was built on consistent partnerships, with Harry Tector being the standout performer. He helped push the total beyond 180, supported by Curtis Campher and George Dockrell.

Fall of wickets:

  • 1-40 (Paul Stirling, 4.2 overs)
  • 2-71 (Tim Tector, 8.2 overs)
  • 3-105 (Lorcan Tucker, 12.3 overs)
  • 4-149 (Curtis Campher, 17.2 overs)

Extras: 5 (4 wides, 1 leg bye)

Bangladesh Bowling

  • Shoriful Islam (4 overs, 42 runs, 1 wicket, economy: 10.50)
  • Nasum Ahmed (4 overs, 37 runs, 0 wickets, economy: 9.25)
  • Tanzim Hasan Sakib (4 overs, 41 runs, 2 wickets, economy: 10.25)
  • Mustafizur Rahman (4 overs, 23 runs, 0 wickets, economy: 5.75)
  • Rishad Hossain (4 overs, 34 runs, 1 wicket, economy: 8.50)

The bowlers of Bangladesh could not halt Ireland. A late surge by Tector, with some essential support by Tim Tector and Curtis Campher, was the guarantee of a hefty total. The costliest bowler in Bangladesh was Shoriful Islam, who conceded 42 runs in his 4-over spell.

Bangladesh Innings: 142/9 (20 overs)

Chasing 182, Bangladesh’s top order collapsed under the pressure of Ireland's bowling attack, leaving them at 66/5 after 11.1 overs. A late rally by Towhid Hridoy helped Bangladesh reach 142, but they ultimately fell short by 39 runs.

Key Performances:

  • Tanzid Hasan: 2 runs from 5 balls (c HT Tector b Humphreys)
  • Parvez Hossain Emon: 1 run from 6 balls (c Dockrell b Adair)
  • Litton Das (c): 1 run from 3 balls (c TH Tector b Adair)
  • Saif Hassan: 6 runs from 13 balls (b McCarthy)

  • Shoriful Islam: 12 runs from 13 balls (c Dockrell b McCarthy)
  • Mustafizur Rahman (not out): 2 runs from 4 balls

The rest of the Bangladesh batting lineup crumbled despite the spirited performance of Hridoy. He was the only ray of light and made the game interesting until the later overs. Jaker Ali and Shoriful Islam contributed valuable runs, but the damage was already done since the wickets were falling at a quick pace.

Fall of wickets:

  • 1-2 (Tanzid Hasan, 0.5 overs)
  • 2-4 (Litton Das, 1.2 overs)
  • 3-5 (Parvez Hossain Emon, 3.3 overs)

  • Curtis Campher (2 overs, 22 runs, 0 wickets, economy: 11.00)

The bowlers of Ireland broke through Bangladesh’s batting at a very fast rate. The most important breakthrough in the middle overs was taken by Matthew Humphreys, who took 4 wickets but conceded only 13 runs. Mark Adair and Barry McCarthy were also instrumental in taking down the vital wickets, allowing Bangladesh no time to form the partnerships that would have enabled a successful chase.
