Inter Miami CF celebrated its first-ever MLS Cup victory at the White House with US President Donald Trump. Lionel Messi led the team on this special occasion, during which they presented a commemorative gift to the president at a reception.
Lionel Messi presented Donald Trump with a signature pink Miami football, while Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas presented the US president with a club jersey.
Speaking at the event, the US President Donald Trump said that welcoming top stars like Lionel Messi at the White House is truly an honor for him. He added that it is indeed a special moment because no other president before him had the chance to meet the great Lionel Messi at the White House.
“We’re honouring truly talented people. It’s my distinct privilege to say what no American president has ever had the chance to say before: Welcome to the White House, Lionel Messi.” said the US President Donald Trump.
Trump also revealed that his son is a big fan of Lionel Messi, which is why he became quite excited after hearing about the arrival of the Argentine football star at the White House.
“My son said, ‘Dad, do you know who’s going to be there today?’ I said, ‘no, I’ve got a lot of things going on’. He said, ‘Messi!’ He’s a big fan of yours,” said the US President Donald Trump.
After the reception, US President Donald Trump invited the Inter Miami team to the Oval Office for a brief session. It reflected the traditional American way of honoring championship teams at the White House, where the entire Inter Miami squad also had a photo session with the US president.
