SA vs IND Tests 2023-24: Team news

For the Indian team in the upcoming Test series, several experienced players who were not part of the T20 and ODI squads are making a return. Rohit Sharma, set to play his first international game since the heartbreak of the 2023 World Cup final, will lead the team. Unfortunately, Ishan Kishan withdrew from the series for personal reasons, and KS Bharat has stepped in as his replacement. This news follows Mohammed Shami's recent exclusion due to an ankle injury. Adding to the challenges, Ruturaj Gaikwad is also out of the Test series due to a fractured finger, with Abhimanyu Easwaran named as his replacement.

On the South African side, Temba Bavuma will resume captaincy after being rested in the ODI series. Kagiso Rabada's availability remains uncertain despite being named in the squad. Nandre Burger, who impressed in the white ball matches, earned his first Test call up, along with David Bedingham and Tristan Stubbs. Wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynee makes a comeback, while the series marks the farewell for former captain Dean Elgar, who has made public that he will retire.
