India vs New Zealand 1st T20I Live as NZ Score 66/1 in Powerplay
New Zealand raced to 66/1 in 6.1 overs against India in the first T20I at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Thursday, October 22. Finn Allen led the early charge with an unbeaten 33 off 17 balls, while Daryl Mitchell was batting on eight from four deliveries.
India won the toss and elected to bowl, but New Zealand started aggressively. The hosts maintained a run rate of 10.7, putting early pressure on the Indian bowling attack.
Finn Allen Powers New Zealand's Fast Start
Allen struck four fours and one six in his opening 17 balls, scoring at a strike rate of 194.12. His attacking approach helped New Zealand move quickly through the powerplay.
Tim Seifert provided support with 24 off 17 balls, including three fours and a six. However, Mayank Yadav ended the opening partnership when Seifert was caught by Sanju Samson at 49/1 in the fifth over.
Yadav made an immediate impact with the ball. He conceded just four runs in his first 1.1 overs and claimed India's only wicket at the time of the update.
Mitchell joined Allen at the crease and continued the attack, striking a six to reach eight not out from four balls.
India's Bowlers Face Early Pressure
India's decision to bowl first has yet to produce the start they wanted. Bhuvneshwar Kumar conceded 21 runs in two overs, while Arshdeep Singh gave away 25 from his two-over spell.
Axar Patel also had an expensive opening, conceding 16 runs in one over. With Allen scoring freely and Mitchell attacking from the other end, India needed to find a way to slow New Zealand's scoring rate.
New Zealand had lost only one wicket by the end of the sixth over, leaving their middle order waiting to bat. Glenn Phillips, Bevon Jacobs, Michael Bracewell and captain Mitchell Santner were among the players still to come.
