India underlined their grip on the shortest format with another ruthless display, cruising past New Zealand by eight wickets to seal yet another T20I series. India first strangled New Zealand to 153 for 9 and then wiped out the target, reaching 155 for 2 in just ten overs.
This is India’s 11th consecutive T20I series or tournament triumph.
Choosing to bowl first, India wasted no time in asserting control. Harshit Rana struck in the opening over, and Jasprit Bumrah followed with a trademark first-ball dismissal that flattened the off stump and immediately set New Zealand back. Ravi Bishnoi, handed responsibility inside the powerplay, rewarded the faith with a miserly spell that suffocated momentum and forced mistakes.
At 34 for 3, New Zealand were already chasing the game. Glenn Phillips and Mark Chapman attempted to rebuild, adding 52 runs, but every attempt to accelerate ran into India’s relentless discipline. Bishnoi removed Chapman with a sharp delivery that refused to turn, and Bumrah’s return overs were a masterclass in precision under pressure.
Phillips top-scored with a fighting 48, while Mitchell Santner’s 27 off 17 balls dragged New Zealand beyond 150, but the total always looked light. Bumrah finished with 3 for 17, Bishnoi claimed 2 for 18, and Hardik Pandya’s variations accounted for two more wickets as New Zealand slipped from recovery to containment.
Any faint hope New Zealand carried evaporated almost instantly. Although Sanju Samson fell first ball, Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma launched into a ferocious counterattack that flipped the match in minutes. Kishan’s 28 off 13 balls included three clean strikes off Matt Henry that cleared the ropes with ease.
Abhishek was even more brutal. Unfazed by New Zealand’s attempts to bowl into his pads, he cleared the front leg repeatedly and punished anything overpitched. His half-century arrived in just 14 balls, the second-fastest by an Indian in T20Is, and by then the contest was effectively over.
When Kishan departed, Suryakumar Yadav took over seamlessly. His unbeaten 57 off 26 balls ensured there were no stutters, while Abhishek finished on a commanding 68 not out.
