India Seek ‘Special Performance’ Against Street-Smart England in T20 World Cup Semi-Final

India secured their semi-final berth after a thrilling run chase against the West Indies national cricket team in Kolkata, where Sanju Samson produced a brilliant unbeaten 97 to guide the team past a target of 196.

Reflecting on that performance, Morkel emphasized the need for someone to deliver another match-defining contribution when India faced the England national cricket team.

“We haven’t really spoken about the perfect game,” Morne told reporters at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium after India’s final training session before Thursday’s big clash.

“It’s not about how you get to the semi-finals. It’s about the next two games, how we’re going to play there.”

“I think the quality of this team has been shown that on the day somebody will put their hand up. Then hopefully, especially tomorrow night, we can put that special performance in.”

A Rivalry That Keeps Delivering

This will be the third consecutive India vs England semi-final meeting in the T20 World Cup. The past two encounters produced champions each time.

In 2022, England dominated India with a 10-wicket victory in Adelaide before defeating Pakistan in the final at Melbourne. Two years later, India returned the favor by beating England by 68 runs in Guyana before lifting the trophy against South Africa in Barbados.

This time, the stage shifts to the packed Wankhede Stadium where around 35,000 home fans are expected to create a passionate atmosphere.

“It’s a big occasion tomorrow night here, a semi-final, a great stadium to play a great game of cricket,” said Morkel.

“So hopefully the boys can rock up tomorrow and just be calm and execute those skills.”
