India vs Afghanistan 2nd ODI Live: Gill and Ishan Fire India to 402
LUCKNOW: A masterclass in aggressive batting from skipper Shubman Gill and a fiery return to form by Ishan Kishan propelled India to a mammoth 402 all out in the second ODI against Afghanistan at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. However, a remarkable death-overs fightback led by left-arm spinner Nangeyalia Kharote prevented the hosts from breaching the 450-run mark.
Early Blow and Strategic Reshuffle
After Afghanistan won the toss and elected to field, India debuted an experimental top order. Yashasvi Jaiswal was drafted in to open alongside Rohit Sharma, pushing Gill down to the number three spot. The move yielded an early setback when Mohammad Saleem removed Jaiswal for just 4 runs in the second over.
Skipper Gill joined Sharma to stabilize the innings, with Sharma striking a fluent 48 off 39 balls. Just as the veteran opener neared his half-century, an accurate googly from Rashid Khan breached his defense, rattling the stumps and leaving India at 96 for 2.
The Gill-Kishan Carnage
What followed was a relentless assault on the Afghan bowling attack. Ishan Kishan, looking to cement his position, teamed up with Gill to orchestrate a staggering 224-run partnership off just 141 deliveries
Between overs 28 and 36, the duo went completely ballistic, ransacking 114 runs in an 8-over window to send India's projected score past 430.
Kharote Triggers Death-Over Collapse
The sweltering 42-degree climate began affecting both teams, causing a visible drop in physical intensity. The breakthrough finally came in the 37th over when Kishan skied a pull shot off Kharote, ending the double-century stand.
Kishan's departure triggered a severe lower-order collapse. Kharote quickly found his rhythm, executing a lethal spell that dismantled India's middle order.
From a position of absolute dominance, the boundaries dried up drastically for India. Rashid Khan capitalised on the pressure to clean up the tail, finishing with figures of 3 for 48. India managed to cross the 400-run mark in the final over, ending their innings at 402 all out with one ball remaining after debutant Prince Yadav was run out for 5.
Kharote emerged as the standout bowler for the visitors, fighting back brilliantly to claim 4 for 76. Though Afghanistan faces a daunting historical chase of 403, their late bowling resurgence has given them a sliver of momentum heading into the second innings.
