India U-19 vs New Zealand U-19: India U19 Into Super Six with Dominant DLS Win

India U-19 vs New Zealand U-19: India U19 Into Super Six with Dominant DLS Win

India Under-19s brushed aside New Zealand Under-19s by seven wickets via the DLS method in a rain-hit Group B clash at Queens Sports Club on Saturday. The result confirmed India’s unbeaten run in the group and shut the door firmly on New Zealand’s tournament hopes.

Frequent showers dictated terms from the outset, with the contest eventually trimmed to 37 overs a side. India captain Ayush Mhatre had no hesitation in bowling first, and his decision paid off almost immediately.

New Zealand never recovered from a stuttering start. RS Ambrish ripped through the top order with a probing new-ball spell, leaving the Blackcaps three down for just 17 inside the eighth over. A brief resistance from Callum Samson and Selwin Sanjay for the eighth wicket offered some relief, but it was only a temporary reprieve. Henil Patel kept the pressure on from the other end, and New Zealand folded for 135 in 36.2 overs, Ambrish finishing as the standout with four wickets.

The revised chase held no real alarms for India. Although Aaron George departed early, the response was swift and decisive. Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Mhatre tore into the New Zealand attack, turning the chase into a one-sided affair. Mhatre, searching for form coming into the match, found it in style with a fluent 53 from 27 balls, while Suryavanshi matched him stroke for stroke with a brisk 40 off 23.

India raced past the DLS target of 130 in just 13.3 overs, underlining their dominance in the group stage of U19 World Cup 2026.
