Doeschate Says India Will Fight to Stay Alive in T20 World Cup After Big Thrashing Against South Africa

The Indian team is currently feeling the heat of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 after being badly beaten by South Africa at Ahmedabad. They never looked in control against the all-round South African team that came up with set plans to defeat the home side in the recent encounter.

The chances of India to reach the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 looks grim after the latest thrashing. They now have to beat both West Indies and Zimbabwe by convincing margins to keep their tournament hopes alive, although the situation would become even more complicated if West Indies win their next match against South Africa.

The assistant coach of India, Ryan ten Doeschate, expressed disappointment after the men in blue displayed a disappointing performance in Ahmedabad. He said the team has messed it up on a grand scale, something that now needs to be corrected with big performances in the upcoming matches.

“Very disappointed in the performance. When you set out to win a World Cup, don’t expect someone to come and deliver it to you halfway through” said the assistant coach of India, Ryan ten Doeschate.

“We’ve messed up on a grand scale, and now the onus is on this group of guys to turn it around and put in two solid performances,” added Ryan ten Doeschate.

He then explained the qualification scenario, saying India needs at least four points with a better net run-rate to go ahead in the semi-finals. Considering that, he now expects the team to bounce back with a strong performance, as the tournament is not finished yet.

“Obviously, with the way the group goes, you need at least four points to get through now, and it’s going to need two big performances and a big bounce back from everyone,” concluded Ryan ten Doeschate
