The India-Pakistan game at Dubai lived up to its hype. India won the game by --- wickets, as they chased the target set by Pakistan in --- overs. It was a thrilling Super Four clash between the two Asian cricketing giants who are currently considered hot favorites to lift the Asia Cup title. The Indian batting performance was led by Abhishek Sharma, who played a sparkling innings of 74 off just 39 balls.
After winning the toss, India chose to bowl first. The dry nature of the Dubai pitch encouraged them to take this decision. India came into the game with two changes. They included Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy in place of Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana for today’s game against Pakistan.
The Pakistan team also came into the game with two changes, as they included Hussain Talat and Faheem Ashraf in place of Hasan Nawaz and Khushdil Shah. The green shirts also changed their opening pair for today’s game. They brought in experienced Fakhar Zaman back at the top alongside Sahibzada Farhan on the other end.
The start of the Pakistan innings was great, as both Fakhar Zaman and Sahibzada Farhan used the Powerplay to hit aggressively. Fakhar, however, got out to Hardik Pandya in the 3rd over due to a controversial decision. The batter looked visibly unhappy with the decision, as he was not amused while going back to the dugout.
The fall of Fakhar Zaman, however, didn’t stop Farhan from playing aggressively. He took his chances and took down Indian bowlers furiously in the Powerplay. Saim Ayub, who came out to bat at number 3 today, also played well in the Powerplay. Their combined effort allowed Pakistan to score a strong total at the end of the Powerplay.
But, after that, Pakistan batters couldn’t keep up the pressure. The prowess of Indian spinners squeezed the scoring rate that eventually allowed Team India to come back into the game. Pakistan then lost wickets cheaply, derailing all the momentum they got in the Powerplay.
Sahibzada Farhan remained the star of the Pakistani batting innings, as he scored a splendid 58 off 45 balls. Farhan, however, didn’t find much support from the other end, as Pakistan kept on losing wickets during the middle overs.
The late order push of Faheem and Nawaz gave Pakistan some impetus in the end. Due to their hitting at the death, Pakistan were able to score 171 at the end of first innings.
The Indian chase got off to a flyer, as Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma gave the team a strong start. Their superlative hitting in the Powerplay ensured India to play on the front foot. Abhishek was especially impressive in today’s game, as he hit Pakistan bowlers furiously throughout the Powerplay.
The base set by the Indian duo at the top helped Team India to steer the chase comfortably. Abhishek remained the star of the Indian batting, as he scored a remarkable 74 off just 39 balls. His innings included 6 fours and 5 sixes in total.
The Indian team finally won the game in the penultimate over, as Tilak Varma hit the winning runs. India will now play their next match against Bangladesh on Wednesday where they will try to keep up the same momentum.
