India has decided to bowl first against Pakistan in the high-stakes Asia Cup Super Four clash. They have made two changes to the squad by bringing in Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy in place of Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana. This is a high-profile match considering the off-field controversies that made headlines after the last clash on Sunday.
Talking about Team Pakistan, they have also made two surprising changes to the squad. They have brought in Hussain Talat and Faheem Ashraf in place of Hasan Nawaz and Khushdil Shah. The green shirts have made this decision keeping in view the all-round capabilities of these players, as that could play a decisive role in the second part of the innings.
Pakistan would be looking to make a strong comeback in this game. They lost the last group stage match against India quite badly. Though the overall performance of Pakistan was not up to the mark, the batting department of the team was especially disappointing during that game.
When Pakistan openers came out to bat, they never looked comfortable against Indian attack. The much-hyped Saim Ayub got out for a duck in the very first over. This immediately brought immense pressure on the Pakistan team, as Indian bowlers pushed them back early in the game.
The other Pakistan opener, Sahibzada Farhan, also looked a bit under pressure. The natural batting firepower of Farhan was not seen anywhere in the game. Meanwhile, Mohammad Haris, who came out to bat at number, also gave his wicket cheaply to Jasprit Bumrah.
Losing early wickets disrupted all the batting plans of the Pakistan team. They tried to make a comeback during the middle overs, but then again, Indian spin countered their attack. This led the Pakistan innings nowhere as they kept on losing wickets regularly. Farhan tried to steady the batting innings from one end, but no one gave him company at the other end.
As a result, Pakistan only posted 127 on the board, which looked like a very small target for India. When they came out to bat in the second innings, their openers gave them a strong start. The duo of Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill started off strongly by hitting quick runs. Abhishek Sharma was the main aggressor in that phase, as he took down the Pakistan bowlers aggressively in the Powerplay. The young batter, however, lost his wicket to Saim Ayub after scoring quick 31 runs off 13 balls.
The middle order of India then played smartly, and took no aggressive chances against Pakistan attack. The captain, Suryakumar Yadav, led the way by scoring steady 47 runs in the chase. India then finally won the match in the 16th over, giving Team Pakistan a good reality check.
The green shirts, however, bounced back by thrashing UAE in the next game. This secured their position in the Super Four stage, where they will now compete with renewed passion. Today’s clash against India would be a test for Pakistan team, as they would be looking to win this match to get a confident start in the Super Four stage.
