Samson, Reddy Shine as India Seal Series With Commanding Win Over Afghanistan in 2nd T20I
India moved 2-0 ahead in the three-match T20I series after beating Afghanistan by seven wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday. Nitish Kumar Reddy led the way with the ball, taking three wickets, before Sanju Samson finished the job with a rapid half-century.
India chose to bowl after winning the toss, and the decision paid off. Afghanistan struggled to build a big total as India's bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals, leaving the visitors with 159/8 from their 20 overs.
Ibrahim Zadran was Afghanistan's leading scorer, making 37 off 33 balls at the top of the order. Rashid Khan then added 28 off 16 balls late in the innings, hitting four boundaries, including a six.
Darwish Rasooli and Mohammad Nabi also made useful contributions in the middle order, scoring 26 and 20 runs respectively.
For India, Nitish Kumar Reddy was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets for 24 runs in three overs. Arshdeep Singh also provided good support with two wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel and Ravi Bishnoi took one wicket each.
India's chase never looked in trouble as they reached 160 in only 14.5 overs. Sanju Samson set the tone early, attacking the Afghanistan bowlers and putting India firmly in control.
The opener smashed 57 from 22 balls, with seven fours and four sixes. Abhishek Sharma also played an aggressive hand, adding 39 from 19 balls as the pair put on 88 runs before both were dismissed by Rashid Khan in the seventh over.
Ishan Kishan then took over and saw India home without any late drama. He finished unbeaten on 38 from 23 balls, hitting three fours and two sixes. Rashid was the only Afghanistan bowler to make an impact with the ball, taking all three Indian wickets, including captain Shreyas Iyer for 11.
The victory in the latest contest also helped India seal the series with an unassailable lead of 2-0. From Afghanistan's perspective, it was a disappointing performance as they looked completely flat from the start. They will now aim to win the third T20I to end the series on a high note, while India will look to dominate the last contest to complete a 3-0 series sweep.
