Heavy Downpours Force India vs West Indies 5th T20I Rain Delay in Bengaluru

Heavy Downpours Force India vs West Indies 5th T20I Rain Delay in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: Heavy downpours and persistent thundershowers have forced a IND vs WI 5th T20I rain delay at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, leaving fans and players waiting inside their dressing rooms. The weather-related interruption has officially delayed the toss for the highly anticipated final showdown of the five-match series.

The atmospheric trouble arrived right on schedule as the India Meteorological Department had previously issued warnings for overcast conditions, thunderstorms, and lightning.

Driven by the onset of the regional northeast monsoon, skies completely darkened over the Karnataka capital close to the scheduled start time. With precipitation chances climbing as high as 70% to 75% during the evening hours, the ground staff had no choice but to keep the entire playing surface securely locked under heavy protective covers.

This frustrating IND vs WI 5th T20I rain delay adds massive dramatic tension to what was built as a perfect grand finale. The bilateral series is currently deadlocked at 2-2 after West Indies pulled off a commanding 24-run victory in Hyderabad. Led by Shreyas Iyer, the host nation is desperately trying to secure a win and preserve their long-standing unbeaten home record.

Meanwhile, the visitors, captained by an in-form Shai Hope, are eyeing a historic series triumph on Indian soil.

The primary silver lining remains the stadium's infrastructure. The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium boasts a world-class SubAir subsurface aeration and drainage system, widely recognized as one of the finest in cricket. This cutting-edge setup can clear water from the outfield at an incredibly fast rate once the skies clear up. However, the intensity of the current windy downpour means that a shortened game is looking increasingly likely.

Match officials are monitoring the radar closely. If the wet weather refuses to relent and leads to a complete abandonment, both squads will be forced to share the series trophy.
