Shai Hope's Masterful 102* Powers West Indies to 247/3 in 4th T20I Against India

HYDERABAD: In a spectacular exhibition of power-hitting, the West Indies have laid down a monumental challenge for the hosts in the IND vs WI 4th T20I. The Caribbean side unleashed a batting masterclass as WI scored 247/3 in 4th T20I, putting themselves in a strong position to level the five-match series.

The undisputed headline of the evening was Shai Hope’s century, a masterfully crafted unbeaten 102* off just 50 deliveries that left the Indian bowling attack completely searching for answers.

Powerplay Fireworks and Steady Anchoring

Indian captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to field, hoping to exploit any early moisture under the Hyderabad lights. However, the decision backfired almost immediately as the West Indies openers walked out with intent. Shimron Hetmyer took on the mantle of the early aggressor, bludgeoning a quickfire 33 off a mere 12 balls to give the visitors a flying start in the Powerplay.

While the spinners briefly managed to pull back the scoring rate in the middle overs, Shai Hope anchored the innings before shifting gears effortlessly. Combining classic cricketing strokes with brute force, Hope cleared the boundaries at will, smashing 9 sixes and 4 boundaries. His reaching the triple-figure mark was met with a standing ovation from the Hyderabad crowd, cementing one of the finest T20I knocks seen on Indian soil.

Late-Overs Carnage

If India expected a respite towards the backend of the innings, Sherfane Rutherford ensured otherwise. Coming in at number five, Rutherford provided lethal support to Hope, blistering an unbeaten 49* off just 26 balls. The duo stitched together a merciless partnership at the death, plundering boundaries off every Indian bowler tasked with death-overs responsibility.

The Indian bowling card painted a grim picture. Left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh and express paceman Mayank Yadav both failed to find their lines, leaking runs heavily to return identical, expensive figures of 0/52 in their respective 4-over spells.

Amid the carnage, debutant or inexperienced frontline bowler Prince Yadav showed immense character. He emerged as the most controlled bowler for the Men in Blue, finishing with respectable figures of 1/36 from his 4 overs and picking up a crucial breakthrough.

The Mountain to Climb

With India currently holding a 2-1 lead in the five-match series, the stakes could not be higher. However, the hosts now face a Herculean task, requiring a mammoth 248 runs to win at an asking rate of nearly 12.4 runs per over.

On a batting paradise of a pitch that offers little assistance to the bowlers, India’s top order will need to replicate the Caribbean fireworks from ball one if they are to secure a series-sealing victory. If the West Indies bowlers maintain their discipline, the series looks well on its way to a dramatic decider.
