WI vs IND 4th T20I: Shai Hope Leads Blistering Caribbean Assault in Powerplay

WI vs IND 4th T20I: Shai Hope Leads Blistering Caribbean Assault in Powerplay

HYDERABAD: A breathtaking display of raw power hitting illuminated the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium as the West Indies staged a ferocious assault during the WI vs IND 4th T20I powerplay, motoring to a colossal 79/1 in 6 overs.

After Indian captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first, the visitors capitalised flawlessly on the conditions, setting up an explosive dynamic for the remainder of the WI vs IND 4th T20I.

The opening pair of Shai Hope and Jewel Andrew caught the Indian bowling attack completely off guard. Mayank Yadav and Arshdeep Singh bore the brunt of the early onslaught as the Caribbean side sprinted past their milestones, leaving the host nation desperate for answers under the lights.

The solitary sigh of relief for India came through the clever variations of left-arm spinner Axar Patel, who provided the critical breakthrough in the fifth over. Patel cleverly deceived the dangerous Jewel Andrew, trapping him leg-before-wicket for a breezy 21 runs off 16 balls. Andrew opted for a review, but tracking confirmed three reds, sending the young opener back to the pavilion.

However, the dismissal failed to stem the flow of runs. Shimron Hetmyer arrived at number three and immediately matched the relentless tempo, ensuring the momentum remained firmly with the batting side through the end of the restrictions.

As the fielding restrictions eased at the conclusion of the WI vs IND 4th T20I powerplay, West Indies comfortably dictated the terms at 79/1. Opening captain Shai Hope remains anchored fiercely on the crease leading the charge with an unbeaten 28 runs, flanked closely by the dangerous Shimron Hetmyer who has raced to 17 runs, joining the departed Andrew (21) to lock in the blistering 79-run total.

India faces a steep uphill battle to restrict the visitors on a lightning-fast Hyderabad outfield.
