Ind vs NZ Final: Samson and Abhishek Go Ballistic as India Post Record-Breaking 255 in Ahmedabad

Ind vs NZ Final: Samson and Abhishek Go Ballistic as India Post Record-Breaking 255 in Ahmedabad

India didn’t just seize the initiative in the Ind vs NZ final; they practically held it hostage. Powering to a mammoth 255/5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the Men in Blue have set New Zealand a target that feels less like a run-chase and more like a mountain climb in a thunderstorm.

From the moment Santner sent India in to bat, Indian openers treated the Black Caps like a Sunday league warm-up, dismantling Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson with a terrifying blend of wristy flicks and flat-batted thumps.

When Abhishek Sharma reached his half-century in just 18 balls, it was a declaration of intent that sucked the oxygen out of the Kiwi huddle. By the time the Powerplay concluded, India sat on a staggering 92/0.

When Sharma eventually fell for a whirlwind 52 (21), New Zealand might have expected a reprieve. Instead, they got Sanju Samson.

Samson played an innings of surgical brutality. He moved through the gears with an elegance that defied the scoreboard pressure of a World Cup final. His 89 off 46 balls was a masterclass in 360-degree hitting, repeatedly clearing the long-on boundary with a nonchalance that silenced the New Zealand faithful.

The middle overs remained a graveyard for the bowlers as Ishan Kishan joined the party. Kishan’s 54 off 24 balls ensured the run rate never dipped below twelve. The pair exploited the shorter boundaries with ruthless efficiency.

However, just as India looked poised to breach the 270-mark, the "Kiwis never die" spirit flickered into life. James Neesham, the veteran campaigner, produced a 16th-over miracle. In the space of six balls, he removed both Samson and Kishan before trapping Hardik Pandya in front. Neesham finished with 3/46, a heroic effort on a surface that offered the bowlers nothing but sweat and leather-chasing.

The final overs saw a flurry of boundaries from Shivam Dube, ensuring India finished on a psychological high. 255 is a record total for a T20 World Cup final, leaving New Zealand requiring a miracle at a required rate of 12.8 runs per over.

Black Caps must produce the greatest run-chase in the history of the sport, or watch the trophy stay in India.
