Ind vs NZ Final: India Rewrite History with Record-Breaking Onslaught as Black Caps Wilt in Ahmedabad

India is currently dismantling the record books in the 2026 T20 World Cup Final against New Zealand. At 191/1 after just 14 overs, they have already comfortably surpassed the previous record for the highest-ever total in a T20 World Cup final. That record was held by the Indian team of 2024, which posted 176/7 against South Africa. With six overs still remaining and nine wickets in hand, India is now eyeing a historic 250-plus total.

The foundation for this massive score was laid by a record-shattering Powerplay, where openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma hammered 92 runs in just six overs. This aggressive start forced New Zealand into a defensive mindset early on. Abhishek Sharma’s 18-ball half-century became the fastest ever recorded in a tournament final, while the opening partnership of 118 runs effectively took the game away from the Kiwi bowlers.

With the current run rate hovering above 13 runs per over, the onslaught shows no signs of slowing down. Sanju Samson remains at the crease alongside Ishan Kishan, both of whom are finding the boundary with ease. If they maintain this momentum, India will not only win the record for the highest final total but could set a target that is statistically near-impossible to chase in a high-pressure championship match.
