Dharamsala: India vs Afghanistan 1st ODI at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala has been officially delayed due to persistent rain. Heavy downpours since yesterday evening and a steady morning drizzle forced groundsmen to keep the entire playing square under a thick blanket of protective covers.

According to local weather forecasts, a 60 to 70 percent chance of continued precipitation looms over the picturesque mountain venue for the remainder of the afternoon. The dedicated ground staff at the stadium are working tirelessly, deploying extra protection over the bowlers' run-ups and vulnerable patches of the outfield, but damp surface conditions remain a significant roadblock. 

Match referees and on-field officials have confirmed that no official pitch inspection can be scheduled until the persistent drizzle completely subsides.This highly anticipated encounter marks the historic beginning of the first-ever bilateral ODI series between these two nations. The visiting Afghan squad, captained by Hashmatullah Shahidi, is determined to bounce back from a comprehensive defeat in the preceding one-off Test match held in New Chandigarh. 

The shift to Ind vs Afg white-ball cricket brings a sense of renewed optimism for Afghanistan, heavily boosted by the return of their premier leg-spinner Rashid Khan, who sat out the Test matches.
