Imam-ul-Haq Reaches Major Milestone in Headingley Test Against England
Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq reached another career milestone on Wednesday when he completed 5,000 international runs during the first Test against England at Headingley.
Imam needed only four runs to reach the landmark after starting the match with 4,996 runs across formats. His tally before the game included 1,823 Test runs, 3,152 ODI runs and 21 T20I runs.
Imam completed the milestone in the ninth over of the first innings, striking Ollie Robinson for a beautiful boundary through the covers.
With this achievement, Imam-ul-Haq became the 30th Pakistani batter to score more than 5,000 international runs. He joined some of the country’s top names, including Inzamam-ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Javed Miandad and Imran Khan.
Talking about the match, Imam could not turn his start into a half-century, as he was dismissed by Josh Tongue in the second session after making 42 runs. The knock took his international tally to 5,038 runs from 107 matches, with an average of 41.29.
After Imam’s dismissal, the rest of the batting order failed to perform, as Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue tore through the lineup to give England a huge edge. Due to their strong bowling performances, Pakistan were bowled out for just 171, with Abdullah and Imam remaining their only star performers in the first innings.
