Hyundai Plans Boston Dynamics Robot Dogs for FIFA World Cup 2026 Security
With the rise of artificial intelligence, robot dogs are currently being used around the world for security purposes. Now, they are also set to be used at FIFA World Cup 2026 in cities like Dallas and more others.
Boston Dynamics, a company backed by Hyundai, has announced the deployment of these dogs at the upcoming mega event. They are confident in the abilities of these machines, which are developed using new-age AI technology.
In its official campaign document titled “Next Starts Now”, Hyundai has said it is partnering with Boston Dynamics to provide robots in support of the tournament.
As per the latest press release, Hyundai said it is “deploying its largest and most advanced mobility fleet to date, and through its collaboration with Boston Dynamics, becoming the first and only official partner to provide robotics for the tournament.”
Hyundai said this plan is part of a bigger move to bring mobility and robotics into every day, real-life use. The news has come at a time when a social media video is spreading online, claiming to show a Boston Dynamics robot dog at AT&T Stadium in Texas scanning the faces of ticket holders. This has sparked talk about possible use of surveillance and identity checks at World Cup venues.
A representative from Boston Dynamic also spoke about the possibility of robot dogs deployment, saying they could be used at the designated venues to perform perimeter security inspections.
“Boston Dynamics’ Spot robots are being deployed at designated World Cup venues to perform perimeter security inspections and will be used to assist security personnel with investigating things like suspicious packages or other potentially hazardous materials. The robots do not have facial recognition capabilities.” said the Boston Dynamics spokesperson.
Separately, in Guadalupe, Nuevo León, local authorities have brought in four robot dogs known as “K9-X” and stationed them at BBVA Stadium as part of their security plan.
Officials said these units are used as first-response tools. They come with cameras, night vision, and communication systems, and are used for patrolling, watching crowds, and understanding situations on the ground. They further explained that the robots are controlled from a distance and are meant to assist human police officers in maintaining the security.
