LAHORE: Hyderabad Kingsmen raced to an aggressive 69/2 after the first six overs, capitalizing on a batting-friendly surface despite losing two early wickets in the HBL PSL 11 final at Gaddafi Stadium.
After being asked to bat first, the Kingsmen openers signaled their intent from the first delivery, with Maaz Sadaqat taking the attack to the Zalmi pacers. Sadaqat’s brisk cameo of 11 runs, which included a six, came to an end in the second over when he was caught off the bowling of Mohammad Basit Ali.
The early breakthrough momentarily hushed the partisan crowd, but the momentum shifted back quickly as Marnus Labuschagne joined Saim Ayub in the middle. Labuschagne looked in sublime touch from the onset, treating the capacity crowd to a masterclass in power-hitting.
He took a particular liking to Iftikhar Ahmed, dispatching him for a massive six and three boundaries to race to 20 runs off just 12 balls.
However, the introduction of Aaron Hardie in the fifth over provided Peshawar with a crucial second breakthrough. Hardie managed to deceive Labuschagne, ending his dangerous stay at the crease just as the Kingsmen were looking to run away with the game.
Despite the loss of their captain, Saim Ayub has held firm at one end, batting with composure to reach 19 runs off 10 deliveries, decorated with four elegant boundaries. Usman Khan has since joined him, wasting no time by striking a four early in his innings.
With a current run rate of 11.5, the Kingsmen have successfully navigated the initial pressure of the final, setting a daunting pace for the remainder of the powerplay.
