LAHORE: In a breathtaking display of high-octane bowling, the Hyderabad Kingsmen have completely silenced the Gaddafi Stadium, reducing Peshawar Zalmi to a staggering 53/4 at the end of the Powerplay in the HBL PSL 2026 final.
The chase for 130 began with what can only be described as a cricketing earthquake. In the very first over of the innings, Zalmi’s both openers, Muhammad Haris and captain Babar Azam. Babar dismissed for a golden duck. The carnage did not stop there. Mohammad Ali accounted for Mohammad Haris and Babar Azam, leaving Zalmi reeling at 8/2 after the 1st over.
Facing a sharp, full delivery from Mohammad Ali, Babar mistimed a flick straight to the fielder at mid-wicket, sending the tournament's leading run-scorer back to the pavilion without scoring. The shock in the Peshawar dugout was palpable as the Kingsmen celebrated a dream start.
The Kingsmen's pace battery continued to exploit the night sky's movement, as Hunain Shah joined the act from the other end. In the fourth over, Hunain induced a thick edge from Kusal Mendis, who departed for 9, leaving the scoreboard reading a disastrous 33/3.The nightmare reached critical levels in the final over of the Powerplay. Michael Bracewell lasted only five deliveries before he was beaten for pace by a brilliant delivery from Akif Javed, becoming the fourth Zalmi batter to fall.
By the end of the sixth over, Peshawar Zalmi stood at 53/4, having lost their entire top order. Aaron Hardie and Abdul Samad are now at the crease, tasked with a monumental rebuilding job.
While the target is only 130, the psychological momentum has shifted entirely toward the debutant Kingsmen, who have turned a low-scoring final into a classic defensive masterclass.
