LAHORE: Islamabad United skipper Shadab Khan has won the toss and elected to field first in the high-stakes Eliminator 2 clash against the Hyderabad Kingsmen at Gaddafi Stadium. In a decision that surprised few, given the historical data in Lahore, Shadab cited the potential for dew later in the evening and a desire to chase under lights as the primary factors behind his choice.
"The wicket looks firm and should stay true, but we want to know what we are chasing in such a big game," Shadab remarked during the toss. United have bolstered their bowling attack for this knockout encounter, relying on their spin-twins to stifle the Kingsmen’s aggressive top order during the middle overs.
Hyderabad Kingsmen captain Marnus Labuschagne appeared unfazed by the outcome, stating he would have likely batted first regardless to put runs on the board in a pressure situation.
After a dominant eight-wicket victory in the previous Eliminator, the Kingsmen XI remained largely unchanged, banking on their momentum to set a formidable target.
With a spot in the PSL 11 Final against Peshawar Zalmi on the line, the opening exchange between United’s new-ball bowlers and the Kingsmen’s openers is expected to be a fiery start to this winner-takes-all showdown.
