Harry Brook has accepted that his off-field conduct was not appropriate during the last New Zealand tour. He acknowledged that the altercation incident involving a nightclub bouncer was embarrassing, and it has given him plenty of learnings which will help him to be more watchful next time.
The England captain issued a new statement after the 1st T20I against Sri Lanka, explaining that he lied about being out on his own at the time of the incident to protect his teammates who were also present there.
"I accept responsibility for my actions in Wellington and acknowledge that others were present that evening. I regret my previous comments and my intention was to protect my team-mates from being drawn into a situation that arose as a result of my own decisions." said England captain, Harry Brook.
He further admitted that the unfortunate situation arose due to his own behavior, suggesting that he may have had too many drinks that night.
"We went out for a couple of drinks beforehand and then I took it upon myself to go out for a few more and I was on my own there. I was trying to get into a club and the bouncer just clocked me, unfortunately. Like I said, I shouldn't have been in that situation from the start... I wasn't absolutely leathered, I'd had one too many drinks." said Harry Brook.
The England captain then said that he has already apologized for the embarrassing incident, and will continue to learn from it to avoid getting into situations like this on international tours.
"I have apologized and will continue to reflect on the matter. This has been a challenging period in my career, but one from which I am learning.” said Harry Brook.
"I recognize that I have more to learn regarding the off-field responsibilities that come with leadership and captaincy. I remain committed to developing in this area and to improving both personally and professionally." concluded Harry Brook.
