In a sharp turn of events, ICC has suspended Haris Rauf for two matches after he was found guilty of breaching the code of conduct during the Asia Cup 2025. The decision has once again ignited the controversy that emerged during the Asia Cup, making things quite heated between PCB and BCCI.
According to an ICC press release issued on Tuesday, Haris Rauf was handed four demerit points for his conduct during the India-Pakistan games. As per the ICC rules, a player who earns four demerit points within 24 months gets suspended from playing matches. This eventually became the reason for Rauf’s suspension, as he will now miss the two ODI matches against South Africa on November 4 and 6, respectively.
“Following a hearing conducted by ICC Match Referee Richie Richardson, Haris Rauf (Pakistan) was again found guilty of a breach of Article 2.21. He was fined 30 per cent of his match fee and received two additional demerit points,” the ICC press release said.
“This takes Rauf’s total to four demerit points within a 24-month period, resulting in two suspension points under the ICC’s disciplinary framework. In accordance with the Code, Rauf is therefore suspended for Pakistan’s ODI games against South Africa on 4 and 6 November 2025,” the press release further added.
During the India-Pakistan game on September 14, Haris Rauf made some controversial gestures that attracted the attention of the global cricket governing body. After the contest, the match referee, Richie Richardson, found Haris Rauf guilty of breaching Article 2.21 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This initially gave Haris Rauf two demerit points, along with a fine of 30% of his match fees.
Besides Haris Rauf, Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav was also penalized for breaching the code of conduct. He was fined 30% of his match fees, while also receiving one demerit point.
The emerging batter of Pakistan, Sahibzada Farhan, also came under the radar when he did a unique bat-firing celebration after scoring a fifty against India. Luckily, he was only given a warning and one demerit point after the match referee completed the hearing.
