Glenn Maxwell Targets Return in Later Stages of India T20I Series

Glenn Maxwell Targets Return in Later Stages of India T20I Series

Australia’s explosive middle-order batter Glenn Maxwell is optimistic about returning to the field in the T20I matches against India. He just had surgery last week on his fractured right wrist. Because of that, he won’t be able to join the series right away. Instead, he’s expected to join the squad and make his return in the latter half of the series.

In the lead-up to the T20I series against New Zealand, Maxwell got injured while bowling to Mitchell Owen in the nets. After seeing the severity of the blow, he was immediately sent to see the specialist to further diagnose the impact of the hit. After seeing the scans, Maxwell decided to go for the surgery immediately. He took the decision to hasten the recovery process, so that he can feature again for Australia in the upcoming T20I series against India.

While Maxwell is not named for the first two games against India on October 29 and 31 in Canberra and Melbourne, he is hopeful to get featured in the final three games that will be played on November 2, 6, and 8, respectively.

"I think having the surgery last week sort of gives me a little bit more hope of playing some part in that India series, if I can get myself right. The only reason I had the surgery was the options they gave me were miss that series completely and no surgery, or have surgery and it gives me a slim chance to hopefully play a part. And if not, I'll be ready earlier for the BBL, and I think it leaves me in good stead to get the rest of my body right," said Glenn Maxwell.

He further stated that the therapist has advised him to move the wrist cautiously. Currently, he is wearing a plastic splint that is supposed to protect the wrist for a good period of time. It will allow him to gradually regain wrist movement while managing the minor pain that may come with it.

"I only met with a hand therapist yesterday. He only gave me some really basic movements, things that look really boring, but I suppose they're going to strengthen the wrist," said Glenn Maxwell.

It should be noted that Maxwell has a history of picking up serious injuries. The last one occurred in a bizarre fashion, as the batter fell off a golf cart and suffered a concussion. Speaking about the current hit, he said that the impact didn’t look that severe immediately. However, when the scans were done, a different picture came out, making the hit yet another unlucky injury for the batter.

"I was probably just a bit unlucky with the position that it hit me on the arm. When it hit me, I thought I was lucky that it hit just bone, and it wasn't too much flesh, and it was going to be right. But, yeah, another unlucky one," said Glenn Maxwell.

Speaking about the BBL that will see the arrival of some new stars like Ashwin this season, Maxwell is optimistic that the signings could further improve the popularity of the league.

"That's really exciting. It's great for the competition. I think anytime you can get world-class superstars who have got the career that he has as a part of the BBL is a massive bonus for us. He's been extremely successful. He's got a hell of a lot of wisdom in the game. I think he's going to give back a lot to the players in the BBL. I don't think it's just the Sydney Thunder, I think the guys that are playing against him will probably ask him a lot of questions, and he's certainly going to bring in a lot of fans as well," said Glenn Maxwell.

It is an undeniable fact that Maxwell is one of those stars who is admired by many fans in the cricket world. His return to the field will not only boost the strength of the Australian team but also excite many people who want to see the batter going hard at bowlers once again.
