Ghana World Cup 2026 Squad Confirmed as Carlos Queiroz Drops Injury Bombshell

Ghana World Cup 2026 Squad Confirmed as Carlos Queiroz Drops Injury Bombshell

Ghana have unveiled their Ghana World Cup 2026 squad, with head coach Carlos Queiroz finalising a 26-player roster ahead of the country's fifth appearance at football's biggest tournament.

The Black Stars will head to North America following a final preparatory fixture against Wales in Cardiff, with their World Cup campaign beginning on June 17 against Panama. Ghana have been placed in Group L, where they will also face England and Croatia in the opening phase of the competition.

Captain Jordan Ayew will lead a squad that blends experienced internationals with several players set for their first World Cup experience. The Leicester City forward remains one of the most senior figures in the dressing room and is expected to play a central role both on and off the pitch.

One notable absentee is Tottenham Hotspur winger Mohammed Kudus, who has been left out after failing to recover from injury in time for the tournament. His absence opens opportunities for several attacking players who impressed during the European club season.

Among those earning selection is Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo. The striker secured his place after a productive second half of the campaign following his January move from Bournemouth. His goalscoring form strengthened his case as Ghana's coaching staff evaluated options in attack before naming the final squad.

Midfield responsibilities are expected to fall heavily on Thomas Partey, who remains one of the most experienced players available to Queiroz. The Villarreal midfielder has been included despite ongoing legal proceedings in the United Kingdom, where he has pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and sexual assault.

The Ghana squad for FIFA World Cup 2026 also includes a strong defensive group featuring Baba Abdul Rahman, Abdul Mumin, Alidu Seidu and Jerome Opoku, while Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Benjamin Asare headline the goalkeeping options.
