Nigeria and Ghana confirmed their qualification for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Poland 2026 after navigating challenging ties in the African qualifiers, with both sides extending their consistent presence on the global stage.
Nigeria’s Falconets were pushed to the limit by Malawi despite carrying a first-leg advantage into the return fixture. Malawi overturned the deficit during the match, forcing Nigeria to respond under pressure. A decisive intervention in the second half allowed the visitors to regain control and secure progression, ensuring their place at yet another edition of the tournament.
The result means Nigeria remains among a select group of teams, alongside the United States and Brazil, to have featured in every edition of the competition since its inception.
Ghana also confirmed qualification after overcoming Uganda across two legs. After taking a narrow lead from the first meeting, Ghana faced early pressure in the return fixture as Uganda found the net and briefly moved into a qualifying position on aggregate.
Despite being reduced to ten players, Ghana responded after the break through a set-piece that proved decisive. The goal ensured their progression and maintained their record of consecutive appearances at the tournament.
The Black Princesses will now head into their eighth straight participation and will be aiming to advance beyond the group stage for the first time.
The African qualification process is set to conclude with two remaining fixtures. Tanzania face Cameroon, while Benin take on Côte d’Ivoire to determine the final teams that will complete the tournament lineup.
The competition will feature 24 teams and is scheduled to take place in Poland from September 5 to 27, with matches to be held across four host cities. Along with this, another mega event, men’s FIFA World Cup 2026, is also near.
