Germany vs Curacao FIFA Live: Felix Nmecha Strikes Early in Germany's World Cup Opener

HOUSTON: Germany took a rapid and clinical lead in their opening FIFA World Cup 2026 Group E fixture against debutants Curacao. Germany struck after just five minutes at Houston Stadium. The four-time world champions wasted no time asserting their technical dominance, establishing a fluid rhythm straight from the opening whistle.

The breakthrough arrived via a beautifully constructed sequence in the final third. Spotting a gap in Curacao's narrow defensive block, playmaker Florian Wirtz drifted into a pocket of space between the lines. The Bayer Leverkusen star showcased his signature vision, threading a precise, incisive pass directly into the path of the advancing Felix Nmecha. Nmecha, timing his late run into the penalty area to perfection, latched onto Wirtz’s perfectly weighted delivery.

Showing immense composure under pressure from the tracking Curacao center-backs, the Borussia Dortmund midfielder calmly slotted a low, composed finish past the sprawling Eloy Room to open the scoring. The early goal provided a harsh welcome to the grandest stage of international football for Dick Advocaat's historic Curacao side, who are making their first-ever appearance at a World Cup tournament.

Despite a raucous atmosphere generated by the traveling Caribbean fans, the tactical gulf was exposed early by Julian Nagelsmann’s highly disciplined German outfit. Nmecha’s clinical fifth-minute conversion firmly settled any opening-match nerves for the European heavyweights, forcing Curacao to re-evaluate their defensive game plan early in the first half.
