Dominant Germany Thump Malaysia 5-1 in FIH Hockey World Cup 2026

Germany began their FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 campaign with a 5-1 victory over Malaysia in their Pool B clash at the Belfius Hockey Arena in Belgium.

The match remained closely contested in the early stages, with neither side able to make a breakthrough. Germany eventually found their rhythm and began to put Malaysia under increasing pressure as the game progressed.

Malaysia managed to get on the scoresheet, with Azrai Abu Kamal contributing to their only goal of the match. However, Germany quickly took control and produced a dominant display in the latter stages.

Justus Warweg and Paul-Philipp Kaufmann were among Germany's key contributors, with Warweg scoring in the 45th minute before Kaufmann found the net in the 53rd minute. Germany continued to create chances and added further goals to establish a commanding 5-1 lead over Malaysia.

Malaysia struggled to respond as Germany's defence kept them from creating enough opportunities to reduce the deficit. The German side comfortably saw out the remainder of the match to secure all three points.

The victory gives Germany an excellent start in Pool B, while Malaysia will now look to regroup and improve in their upcoming World Cup fixture.
