Former NFL Player Jordan Devey Dies at 38, CTE Suspected

Former NFL player Jordan Devey has died at the age of 38, his family confirmed. Devey, who won a Super Bowl during his time with the New England Patriots, is survived by his wife, Linsey, and their four children.

Family members said Devey died on July 21. A GoFundMe campaign has since been launched to provide financial support for his family as they deal with the aftermath of his death.

The fundraising page stated: “Tragically, Jordan took his own life, leaving his family to navigate an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time. The funds raised will help ease the financial burden, allowing them to focus on healing and moving forward.”

Family Raises Concerns About CTE

Speaking after Jordan Devey died, his parents said they believe chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) may have contributed to the challenges he experienced. CTE is a progressive brain disease associated with repeated head impacts and has been identified in some former athletes involved in contact sports.

His mother, Leslie, said: “We believe that he possibly suffered from CTE. We also feel like this was partly why he’s not with us any longer at the age of 38.”

She also encouraged people facing similar struggles to seek support, adding: “We want people to understand that it’s okay to reach out. That help is there, and there’s nothing wrong with you for reaching out. You’re not fighting the battle alone.”

Devey played as an offensive lineman during his NFL career and was part of the Patriots' Super Bowl-winning roster. His death has prompted renewed discussion around long-term player health, including the ongoing research into the effects of repeated head trauma on former professional athletes.
