Former Cricketer Basit Ali Slams Mohammad Haris, Questions His "Cricketing Sense"

In a Tri-Series match against Afghanistan, Mohammad Haris was dismissed after scoring just 1 run off 4 balls. Batting at No. 7, he fell to veteran spinner Mohammad Nabi, who was brought into bowl precisely because he was a left-arm spinner.

“He has no cricketing sense.”

Basit criticized Haris’s shot selection, accusing him of trying to hit a six just for show, despite facing a bowler best suited to dismiss him.

“You're playing senseless cricket.”

He went on to question Haris’s decision-making, suggesting that he lacked awareness at a strategic level.

Notably, Basit Ali has not held back elsewhere either:

Haris had suggested Babar should bat faster in T20s post his omission—drawing even sharper criticism. Basit went as far as saying that comment “deserved a beating with a stick,” stressing that it was disrespectful to question a legend’s style.

  • Debut Sensitivity: A recalled or emerging player criticizing senior peers like Babar Azam can be seen as overstepping boundaries and eroding team harmony.

  • Focus Required: Haris needs to channel energy into batting improvement and tactical development, rather than public comments or showy shots.

  • Veteran Wisdom: Basit’s criticism highlights how much scrutiny and expectation young players face—and how speech carries weight.
