Fletcher’s century in vain as Washington Freedom edge LA Knight Riders in last-ball thriller

In a dramatic finish at Grand Prairie Stadium, Andre Fletcher’s whirlwind century couldn’t prevent Los Angeles Knight Riders slipping to a narrow five-wicket loss to Washington Freedom, who snatched victory off the final delivery of the match.

Fletcher lit up the Knight Riders’ innings, scoring a blistering 104 off just 60 balls—retiring one ball after reaching his century—including seven fours and six sixes. He shared a 130-run opening stand with Unmukt Chand (41), setting the team on course for a massive total of 213/4.

Match Highlights

Chasing 214, Washington Freedom responded with composure and power:

  • Mitchell Owen exploded with 43 off 16 balls.
  • Andries Gous added a steady 31 as the opener.
  • Glenn Maxwell struck 42 off 23, continuing his fine form.

As the game came down to the wire, Glenn Phillips (33*) and Obus Pienaar (23*) held their nerve, guiding the chase over the line on the last ball, completing one of MLC 2025’s most thrilling finishes

Despite standout efforts from Fletcher, the Knight Riders couldn’t capitalize on dropped chances including a crucial one off Jason Holder in the final over and Washington’s bowlers, led by Tanveer Sangha (2/35), kept the match alive until the end.

Fletcher’s century showcased his class, but MLC’s mix of grit, key moments, and clutch performances propelled the Freedom into second place on the table, leaving the Knight Riders still searching for consistency.
