Japan, Saudi Arabia and Tajikistan have secured qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2026 after strong performances in the ongoing AFC U-17 Asian Cup, confirming their places alongside hosts Qatar in the global tournament.
The three sides advanced from their respective groups with a game to spare, ensuring they will be among Asia’s representatives at the expanded youth event. With Qatar already qualified as hosts, the continent will send a total of nine teams to the tournament.
Japan sealed their progress after registering back-to-back wins in Group B. Following an opening victory over Qatar, they overcame China 2-1, with Anthony Motosuna and Maki Kitahara scoring in either half. The result guaranteed Japan a top-two finish in the group.
In Group A, Saudi Arabia maintained their winning start with a 2-0 result against Thailand. Marwan Al Yami gave them an early lead before Hassan Al Okrush added a second late in the match. The win followed their opening success against Myanmar, putting them beyond reach of the chasing teams.
Tajikistan also confirmed qualification from the same group after recording consecutive victories. They edged Myanmar 1-0 through a first-half goal from Asadbek Makhtumov, building on their earlier win over Thailand to secure maximum points.
With matches still to be played in Groups C and D. Moreover, additional teams could join the list of qualifiers in the coming days. The second round of fixtures is scheduled for Sunday, while the final group standings will be determined after matches on Tuesday and Wednesday.
