LAHORE: Pakistan captain Fatima Sana has called on Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi to introduce a Pakistan Women's Cricket League, describing it as a key step for the growth of the women’s game in the country.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Fatima said the proposed league could open doors for both local and international players. “We have long been awaiting the Pakistan Women's Cricket League. I would request PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi to launch our league,” she said.
“It will attract foreign players to Pakistan, while our players will also get opportunities abroad. This will greatly benefit women's cricket. Even Asian countries now have women's leagues, and as our cricket is progressing, such a league is essential,” she added.
Fatima Sana also outlined the team’s preparations for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026, where she is set to lead Pakistan. She said the side has, for the first time, been given an extended build-up through bilateral series and domestic competitions.
“For the first time, we are getting a proper opportunity to prepare thoroughly ahead of the World Cup. Before the tournament, Zimbabwe will tour Pakistan, after which we will travel to Ireland. We have also been provided with domestic tournaments, and training camps have been held regularly,” she said.
“We will head into the ICC Women's T20 World Cup with a strong combination and aim to deliver a good performance.”
The 24-year-old all-rounder also stressed the need to strengthen the squad balance. “I am striving to maintain consistency in my performances. As an all-rounder, I want to win as many matches as possible for Pakistan,” she said.
“We are also working to bring more all-rounders into the team, as it greatly benefits the side.”
