Farhan Shrugs Off Kohli Record Speculation, Focused on Pakistan’s Campaign

Farhan Shrugs Off Kohli Record Speculation, Focused on Pakistan’s Campaign

KANDY: With the Super Eight stage heating up, Sahibzada Farhan has found himself at the center of record-breaking chatter. Yet the Pakistan opener remains unfazed by comparisons with Indian great Virat Kohli and insists his attention is firmly on contributing to Pakistan’s success in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Farhan has been in sublime touch, amassing 220 runs in four matches, making him the tournament’s leading run-scorer so far. His rich vein of form has naturally led to talk of Kohli’s long-standing record of 319 runs in the 2014 edition, a benchmark that could come under threat with Pakistan guaranteed at least two more Super Eight fixtures against England and Sri Lanka.

Farhan’s Clear Priorities

Despite the growing buzz, Farhan made it clear during a pre-match press conference in Kandy that personal milestones are not driving him.

“My effort is always to take the innings deep and to score more runs and win matches for Pakistan,” he said.

“I don’t focus much on stats or records. Although records are made to be broken, I am not thinking about that. The aim is to score maximum runs for Pakistan.”

His remarks underline a team-first mindset at a crucial juncture of the tournament, where Pakistan’s qualification hopes hang in the balance.

Super Eight Scenario

Pakistan currently has just one point in the Super Eight stage after their opening match against New Zealand in Colombo was abandoned due to rain. With limited room for error, the upcoming clash against England carries significant weight.

England, on the other hand, enters the contest with momentum following a commanding 51-run victory over Sri Lanka at the same venue.

As the Super Eight phase intensifies, Farhan’s form could prove pivotal. While the numbers place him within reach of a historic milestone, the opener’s message remains consistent. For him, records are secondary. Delivering for Pakistan is what truly matters.
