Fakhar Zaman in Trouble After PSL Ball Tampering Row

Fakhar Zaman in Trouble After PSL Ball Tampering Row

The noise of Karachi Kings vs Lahore Qalandars match hasn’t settled yet. Not after a dramatic finish like that.

The PSL ball tampering controversy now sits right at the center of Lahore Qalandars’ defeat, and Fakhar Zaman ball tampering in PSL has quickly become the biggest talking point from the game against Karachi Kings.

It all unfolded in the final over.

Umpire Faisal Afridi stepped in and asked for the ball. A check followed. Then a longer look. Players gathered around, waiting. The decision came soon after. The ball was replaced, and Karachi were awarded five penalty runs.

Just like that, the equation shifted. Karachi needed 14 from six and after penalty that dropped to 9 runs only. That one moment flipped everything.

The decision followed PSL playing condition 41.3, which allows umpires to check the ball at any time and act immediately if they suspect it has been altered.

Under clause 41.3.5.1, the batter can choose a replacement from a set of used balls. Clause 41.3.5.3 also allows five penalty runs if officials identify responsibility for changing the ball’s condition.

After the match, Shaheen Afridi admitted there was uncertainty around the call. “We’ll see what the umpires say,” he said.

Pressure builds as Lahore await decision

The charge against Fakhar falls under a level-three offence. That means a ban is on the table. One match at least, possibly two. He will face match referee Roshan Mahanama and contest the call.

The Fakhar Zaman ball tampering in PSL situation has already hurt Lahore. Not just the result, but what could follow. Losing an experienced batter now would leave a gap.

There was confusion straight away. Shaheen Afridi admitted after the game that the reason behind the penalty was unclear. In the stands, fans reacted the same way. Some went quiet. Others questioned it loudly. It didn’t feel routine.

Karachi stayed sharp as Abbas Afridi wrapped it up quickly with a firm boundary followed by a clean strike over the ropes. It was done in two balls, and the crowd jumped to its feet.

That shot had the crowd on its feet.

Hasan Ali’s fine for an aggressive celebration added to the mood, but the focus remains on the bigger issue. The PSL ball tampering controversy now heads into a hearing that could shape Lahore’s next few matches.
