“I No Longer Intend to Retire” – Fakhar Speaks on Retirement U-Turn Following 2026 World Cup Speculation

Fakhar Zaman has confirmed he will continue playing T20 internationals for Pakistan, talking about an earlier decision to step away from the format after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The left-handed opener said he now intends to continue and end his T20 career on his own terms.

“After the World Cup, I had decided to retire from T20 cricket. However, I no longer intend to retire and want to finish my T20 career on a high note,” Fakhar stated, ending speculation about his future in the shortest format.

T20I Record and PSL Performances

Fakhar remains one of Pakistan’s most experienced players in T20 internationals. He has played 120 T20Is, scoring 2,494 runs at a strike rate of 132.51, including 14 half-centuries. His aggressive approach has made him an important part of Pakistan's white ball team for years.

Fakhar has been a key player for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League. He has represented the franchise for 11 straight seasons.

In 99 PSL matches, he has scored 3,018 runs at a strike rate of 141.82, including 24 half-centuries and two centuries, maintaining a consistent record as an opening batter.

Suspension During PSL Season

Fakhar is currently serving a two-match suspension following a disciplinary breach. The penalty was imposed after he was found guilty of ball tampering during the match last week.

The suspension means he will miss the next two PSL fixtures before becoming available for selection again.
