FA Fines Rodri £80k Over Referee Remarks After Spurs Clash

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has landed in trouble with the Football Association after his heated reaction to a refereeing call during the recent Manchester City Tottenham controversy in the Premier League.

The FA confirmed the Spaniard must pay £80,000 following remarks made in a post-match interview after City’s tense 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur.

The flashpoint came during Spurs’ equaliser. Dominic Solanke bundled through the back of City defender Marc Guehi before scoring. City players protested instantly. On-field referee Robert Jones allowed the goal and VAR checked it. The officials saw no foul, so the goal stood.

Rodri did not hide his frustration afterwards.

Speaking to reporters, the Ballon d’Or winner insisted the challenge looked obvious once he reviewed the footage. He also hinted that decisions were repeatedly going against his side, comments the FA ruled crossed the line. That verdict led directly to the Rodri FA fine, announced on Tuesday.

City’s midfielder had said referees must remain neutral and questioned how the incident escaped punishment. He also pointed to what he called a pattern across recent matches.

The governing body judged those words as implying bias toward officials. Under FA rules, that constitutes misconduct.

For Manchester City, the Manchester City Tottenham controversy refuses to fade quickly. And with the Rodri FA fine now confirmed, the fallout from that dramatic night in north London continues.
